Multi-master, star, and fan-in replication made easy with Tungsten

Tungsten Replicator is a popular replacement for MySQL replication. It has now become a mature and robust product, with an easy-to-use installer. While installing a simple master/slave topology was made as easy as it could possibly be since version 2.0.3, installing complex topologies was still a matter for advanced users only.
Not any more! Continuent has released a package of cookbook recipe scripts, which make installation of multi-master, star, fan-in, and all-masters a matter of minutes. Actually, once you have configured your cluster, installing one or the other topology requires just seconds.
This video (recording of our live webcast 12/6/2012) describes the new installation tools, and shows quick demos on how to install and test each topology, with just a few keystrokes.

Webinar Monday, Nov 5th @ 15:00 GMT - MySQL High Availability Realized

High Availability (HA) ensures all important business information is available for your application even when there is no database failure. This includes:
  • How about when you are upgrading your database schema?
  • What if you need to add memory to a database server or reconfigure/restart MySQL?
  • If your apps want to read data from a MySQL slave, how can you be sure they are not reading stale data without re-coding your apps?
  • What if your main data center takes a hit?
  • And what if you want better MySQL stability, performance, and simplified administration, but you cannot or do not want to re-write your apps or convert your current data to run with a proprietary MySQL re-write or a promised new version of MySQL?
In this webinar, we will show a detailed case study for how to use MySQL (including MySQL Community 5.x, MySQL Enterprise 5.x, MariaDB, Percona Server) with your existing apps and data, and iteratively build up a highly-available, scalable, multi-site database infrastructure where your simple failover strategy is 100% automated, and you can perform complex data management tasks including DR failover with single commands.

Continuent Tungsten @ MySQL Connect

Replicating from MySQL to Oracle Database and Back Again by Robert Hodges and Linas Virbalas

Continuent Tungsten @ Percona Live NYC

Percona Live New York City, October 1 - 2, 2012Consolidate your sharded database indexes in real-time
by Jeff Mace, Director of Professional Services at Continuent:

How do you find one users’ data when it is located in one of a hundred schemas? Build a global index table that allows you to identify the home data center and schema for any user. Sharding data across many schemas is the lifeblood of highly-scalable websites. Multiple data centers are the key to maintaining availability and performance around the globe. You can use Tungsten Replicator to combine key data from all of these schemas into a central table in real-time. Jeff's talk will show examples of doing this in MySQL or MongoDB.

Tungsten Replicator is a high performance, open source, data replication engine for MySQL. It offers a set of features that surpass any open source replicator available today: global transaction IDs to support failover, flexible transaction filtering, extensible transaction metadata, sharding, multiple replication services per process, high performance, and simple, well-documented operation.

Complex multi-master solutions made easy with Tungsten - SkySQL & MariaDB: Solutions Day for the MySQL® Database

Robert Hodges & Giuseppe Maxia of Continuent present this talk on Tungsten. Continuent Tungsten's architecture makes creating complex topologies, such as multi-master, really easy and allows for outstanding performance using parallel replication and pre-fetching. Users of this technology can deal with their clusters as if they were a single server, thanks to the transparent connectivity that makes the transition from a single server to a cluster a really easy task. For multi-master and multi-site deployments, an automatic fail-over between single hosts and automated fail-over between sites are also at the users' fingertips.

The best MySQL multi-master solution gets even better

The best (and truly the only) MySQL multi-master, multi-site solution on the market gets even better! Continuent is happy to announce immediate availability of Continuent Tungsten 1.5.

New Continuent Tungsten 1.5 allows you to build multi-site, disaster recovery (DR) and multi-master solutions with ease:

  • Multi-Master Operations - Tungsten can support your multi-master operations today by linking together highly-available, scalable Tungsten clusters with bi-directional, cross-site replication.
  • Multi-Site-Aware Connectivity - Tungsten is now aware of all the database servers in the multi-site-configuration and intelligently routes the requests to the right database server.
  • Easy Multi-site, Disaster Recovery Deployment - One-step command to deploy multiple Tungsten clusters in two or more data centers or cloud regions in a matter of minutes, with automatic checking of all pre-requisites, and links them together, seamlessly, with cross-site replication.
  • Isolate and Handle Local Failures Automatically - Tungsten automatically fails over within each local cluster, and transparently reconfigures resources at remote sites to maintain the cross-site replication.
  • Site-Level Failover - Fail over to a DR site with a single 'failover' command.
Continuent Tungsten does not require any application changes, and runs on all flavors (MySQL Community, MySQL Enterprise, MariaDB and Percona Server) and all versions of MySQL (5.0, 5.1, 5.5). When you review your HA options, please note that this 'no-changes' promise is really not true with many other MySQL HA solutions currently available.

If you are currently using MySQL replication (no automatic master failover), MMM, MHA or DRBD (50% performance penalty), you should consider Continuent Tungsten instead. Ask us about our special promotion for replacing your current HA solution with Continuent Tungsten!

Webinar 5/31: Building a multi-master, multi-region MySQL solution in the Cloud

Growth is good, right? Yes, unless you are the one building and managing a MySQL database tier to handle all this growth! Your company has built a great new app and launched it in the cloud. And now you are seeing what many wish for: an exponential adoption of your app.

But is your database tier really up to the job?
  • What happens if your MySQL server fails?
  • Can you fail over to a replica quickly?
  • Do you even have a replica to fail over to?
  • Can you keep your app available even as you upgrade your database schema or add additional or more powerful database servers?
  • Can you easily scale read operations by load balancing them across a set of replicas?
  • Do you have a way to maintain a set of data that is globally accessible, across Amazon EC2 regions in the USA, Europe, APAC, Japan etc., and that allows app users to get to and update their data with minimal latency, no matter where they are located?
  • How do you make sure that an update made in a database in Japan gets propagated to databases in Europe, USA, APAC etc. with minimal latency?
That's a lot of questions... and this webinar will answer them. Join us to learn how Continuent Tungsten can help you solve these issues by combining local MySQL clusters, for high-availability and scalability, with cross-region, multi-master replication to maintain a globally distributed database.

In this webinar we show how to architect and manage cutting edge data management topologies. We start with simple clustering, build up to multi-master/multi-site, and end by illustrating how to integrate your MySQL systems to other DBMS types. The webinar includes live demos of simple failover, DR site setup, and fan-in from multiple sites to a single reporting server. By the end of the talk you will understand how Continuent Tungsten works and the problems you can solve with it.

Continuent Tungsten customers include American Express, AT&T, Constant Contact, F-Secure, Financial Times, Juniper Networks, Hearst Magazines UK, Marketo, Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, Sony Music Entertainment, Thomson Reuters and Zappos.com, an Amazon company. The largest Tungsten Enterprise deployment processes 500,000,000 transactions per day on 150TB of managed data.
